Friday's bond market has opened in positive territory despite a lack of relevant economic data or headlines to drive trading. Stocks are helping the cause with sizable losses in the major indexes. The Dow has lost 420 points while the Nasdaq is down 90 points. The bond market is currently up 13/32 (1.37%), which with yesterday's late rally, should improve this morning's rates by approximately .250 - .375 of a discount point.

There is nothing scheduled today that we need to watch. As expected, it looks to be an active day for the stock markets due to option expirations (quadruple witching). This morning's bond gains are likely being helped by the early losses in stocks, but the rally actually started yesterday after rates were posted.

Next week has plenty scheduled ahead of the holiday weekend, starting with the moderately relevant November's Leading Economic Indicators (LEI) late Monday morning. There are events that we will be watching scheduled for every day that the markets are open next week. None of the releases are considered to key or major economic updates, but several carry enough importance to move rates noticeably.

The Christmas Holiday is going to alter next week's trading schedule. Bond trading will close early Thursday afternoon and remain closed through Monday morning. Stocks will be open for a full day Thursday, but will also be closed Friday. Look for details on all of next week's activities and holiday schedule in Sunday evening's weekly preview.

If I were considering financing/refinancing a home, I would....

Lock if my closing were taking place within 7 days...
Float if my closing were taking place between 8 and 20 days...
Float if my closing were taking place between 21 and 60 days...
Float if my closing were taking place over 60 days from now...

This is only my opinion of what I would do if I was financing a home. It is only an opinion and cannot be guaranteed to be in the best interest of all/any other borrowers.
